Ayushmann Khurrana, who is known for playing unique and different roles, started his 2020 by dropping the trailer of Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. Written and directed by Hitesh Kewalya, the film is not a sequel to the 2017 hit Shubh Mangal Saavdhan but a continuation of the franchise.

Here, Ayushmann Khurrana plays a homosexual character who tries to win the family of his lover (Jitendra Kumar).

Talking about his role, Khurrana said he had no apprehensions whatsoever when the part came his way. “You need a mass or a mainstream hero to do this subject to normalise it,” says Khurrana. “This is the perfect time. I have always been a risk-taker. It’s a character I am playing. What’s the qualm or negative side in this?” he added.

Ayushmann is hopeful that the movie will help change the perception of homosexuality being “a taboo” and that the process of coming out to parents becomes easier for kids more so in smaller cities and towns.
