Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the nation on Thursday after the Indian government’s decision to scrap Article 370 in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This was Prime Minister’s first speech after Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced in the Rajya Sabha that Article 370 was scrapped in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir are bifurcated into two Union Territories, and the state will lose the special status that it had enjoyed under Article 370. Prime Minister Modi had stated in his speech that the whole world would now come to the valley to shoot films.
There was a time when Kashmir was the favorite destination for Bollywood filmmakers now PM is confident that even Hollywood films will be shot there. He had urged Bollywood, Telugu, and Tamil film industries to come to Jammu and Kashmir and shoot films there.
It was after two decades that in 2012 when Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan was shot in Kashmir. It was in the following years when films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Raazi, and several others brought Kashmir back on the inbound tourist’s map yet again.
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi now asking the film industries to shoot in Jammu and Kashmir, the film industry now has more reason to skip foreign locations.
